Everything You Need to Know About BB Creams

Written By: Sheeny

For some reason, my mom knew about the latest makeup phenomenon, BB Creams like a hundred years before I did. I felt like a complete failure. I pretended I didn’t care, but I really did and wanted to try them. But did I want to spend money when I didn’t even know which brand was for me and where could I find reviews of such products?

Finally after waiting and waiting, I got my first sample in the September Issue of Allure. It was for L’Oreal. Soon after I placed an order for some fancy hair conditioner from Sephora and got a couple more samples. Behold my definitive review!

L’Oreal Magic BB Cream: This was the first one I tried and indeed the most magical. It slightly smooths out your skin tone so that you don’t look all fake and makeup cakey and orange. This one is also the cheapest of the three samples. I’d wholly endorse this one, except that the company is quite cagey as to whether they test on animals or not. I don’t need smooth skin so badly that little puppies need to be blinded.

Stila: This one was actually a 3 samples in 1. You got a BB Cream, a foundation, and a concealer. The first day I used the BB Cream. It was very nice and gave me a pale glow instead of my usual blotchy misery face. The 2nd day I thought, hmm, this one is too much like foundation. Well, duh. It was foundation. I did not read carefully which it’s important to do otherwise you’re covered in foundation or falling into a well or something. I didn’t try the concealer because I don’t like concealer and in my experience it just looks like you’re trying to cover something up. I’m no Kim Kardashian though.

Too Faced: This one was ok. I only put on a very small amount because the sample was ‘medium’ and I’d usually get ‘light’. I didn’t want to look orange. Not as impressed with the texture.

Ok, that’s it. Go out there and be your best BB selves ladies!

Try the Asian ones! Western brands don’t come close, sadly.

  2. Ew, I didn’t know that all that makeup sculpting goes on to make Kim’s face look like that!
